Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the Public Health and Women and Child Development departments to prepare a joint early-childhood mission and submit it to the Cabinet. Prahaar reported the October 1 directions that evening, following a meeting at Mumbai’s Sahyadri Guest House.

Akashvani’s account says the programme would cover pregnancy through a child’s second birthday. Maternal anaemia, nutrition, breastfeeding, immunisation and healthcare are among the intended priorities, with attention to tribal communities and urban areas.

Fadnavis also called for a separate mission secretariat and regular monitoring based on data. IANS reported that the departments were asked to define shared responsibilities and address administrative disputes that delay Anganwadi and nutrition services. Local conditions and food practices are to inform the framework.

The immediate decision is to prepare and coordinate a proposal. The reviewed reports do not establish a Cabinet-approved budget, an operational starting date or improved health outcomes. Those remain distinct from the announcement. The next substantive step is the proposed framework’s consideration by the state Cabinet.
