The National Investigation Agency arrested Harwinder Kumar, also known as Sonu, at Delhi airport on October 1 after his deportation from the United Arab Emirates. The case concerns the April 2024 killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab’s Nangal.
ANI’s court report says Special Judge Prashant Sharma granted a two-day transit remand for production before the NIA court in Chandigarh. The Home Ministry’s Thursday account of the deportation and arrest was also reported by The New Indian Express. Transit remand is a procedural custody order, not a conviction.
The NIA alleges that Kumar provided logistical and financial support to people involved in the killing, which it attributes to a Babbar Khalsa International conspiracy. Those alleged roles have not been decided by this remand order. The agency registered its case on May 9, 2024 and says it has filed three chargesheets. No response from Kumar to the latest allegations was available in the reports consulted.
