A Dhanbad court sentenced Shahid Alam, Shahadat Hussain and Tanveer Alam to life imprisonment on October 3 in the case arising from the 2004 attack on Fahim Khan’s Wasseypur home. United News of India reported the sentencing the same day.
District and Sessions Judge-III Paras Kumar Sinha also imposed ten-year terms for attempted murder and seven-year terms under the Arms Act. UNI, citing advocate Shahbaz Salam, reported that the prison sentences would run concurrently rather than consecutively.
The Times of India’s October 3 report distinguished the new sentencing from the conviction delivered on September 28. The three are convicted men in this case; the earlier judgment had reserved the question of punishment for October 3.
The attack took place on January 29, 2004. Amar Ujala reported on October 3 that bodyguard Vinod Sharma was killed and another person was wounded. Khan escaped the shooting, which involved AK-47 rifles and other firearms.
The order concludes sentencing at the trial-court stage. The Times of India noted that an appeal remains possible. A copy of the order and a defence response were not available in the material reviewed.
