Saharanpur police detained journalist and YouTuber Huda Zariwala on September 7 after she tried to enter the Circuit House during a visit by an opposition delegation. Police said she wanted to accompany the delegation to the site of the mosque demolished inside the district collectorate complex two days earlier.
Superintendent of Police Vyom Bindal said Zariwala was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace after officers accused her of causing a disturbance when she was denied entry. She was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. That preventive detention did not amount to a finding that she had committed the separate offences later alleged against her.
Police subsequently registered another case over social-media remarks about Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the district administration. A complainant described the posts as provocative, while police said the investigation was continuing. The reviewed accounts did not provide Zariwala's response, the full posts or a later court outcome, so this report does not determine whether the speech was unlawful.
