Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on October 3 that Navpreet Singh had been deported from Türkiye and brought to India that day. PTI and NDTV reported his announcement. Shah said Singh was in custody in connection with narcotics and other criminal cases.

Shah alleged that Singh had acquired Turkish citizenship under the name Navab Virk and continued supplying heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India. These are the minister’s allegations. The reports reviewed did not provide a court ruling establishing those claims or a response from Singh.

Shah credited Indian agencies with locating Singh and establishing his identity. He also repeated the government’s stated goal of dismantling drug-trafficking networks before December 2029. The announcement did not settle the criminal allegations against Singh, which would need to be tested through the legal process.
