India’s industrial production was 8% higher in August 2026 than a year earlier, according to quick estimates released by the statistics ministry on September 28 and reported by Moneycontrol that day. The figures remain open to revision.
Manufacturing expanded 9%, while electricity and gas supply rose 12.3%. Mining and quarrying fell 5.6%. Water supply, sewerage and waste management grew 6.3%.
Eighteen of the 23 manufacturing industry groups recorded growth. Capital goods production rose 16.9%, intermediate goods 13.7% and consumer durables 11.1% compared with August 2025.
The index uses 2022–23 as its base year and measures industrial output, not the whole economy. The ministry scheduled the September release for October 28.
