Seven people died after a truck struck a pickup van on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra’s Amravati district in the early hours of October 2, according to an updated PTI report published by The New Indian Express. Police placed the collision near Dhamangaon at about 12.45 am.
The PTI update explains that five died at the scene and two were declared brought dead in Wardha. It gives 19 injuries. Earlier five-death, 21-injury accounts are preliminary figures, not additional casualties.
The injured were initially taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital and then referred to Wardha. Akashvani reported that the pickup was carrying devotees travelling from Shegaon towards Wardha with a Durga idol, and that the district police chief visited the hospital.
Police said the cause of the collision was being investigated. Asal Sach is not attributing blame to a driver or claiming a confirmed mechanical or road-design failure.
