Hockey India will consider action after receiving the Asian Hockey Federation’s report on sexual-misconduct allegations against Indian umpire manager Gurinder Singh Sangha, a senior federation official told PTI in a report published on October 2. The official said Sangha had been sent home from the Asian Games two days earlier, on September 30. The new development is the public response, rather than a newly ordered removal.
Independent reports by The Indian Express and The Times of India describe a complaint from a woman official alleging unwanted physical contact. They also report a separate allegation involving a hotel worker. These remain allegations, with no publicly available inquiry finding establishing misconduct. The complainants are not identified here.
Sangha denied wrongdoing when contacted by The Indian Express. In its October 3 update, he disputed the allegations and said his early return was for family reasons. His account differs from the federation official’s explanation.
The Asian Hockey Federation appoints the Games’ hockey officials. It declined to comment to PTI and did not answer the Express’s request. Hockey India’s promised response depends on that federation’s report; the reviewed coverage does not establish that a new disciplinary penalty has been imposed.
