Four Cachar police personnel were suspended pending a departmental inquiry on September 30 after an ambulance was obstructed during Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's convoy movement in Silchar. Independent reports by NDTV and Barak Bulletin, along with an IANS account, confirmed the action.

Sarma's public statement apologised to the patient and family and said emergency care must take priority over the chief minister's passage. He said officials had been instructed to investigate and take action over the failure to follow directions against inconveniencing the public.

The police account changed during the day. Barak Bulletin reported that Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das initially described the ambulance as empty and said the driver had permitted the convoy to pass. After reviewing the incident and speaking to the driver, Das acknowledged obstruction to services that could have caused public inconvenience. He also said the ambulance had its emergency lights and siren operating.

The differing accounts do not establish that a patient suffered harm or resolve who was aboard. The inquiry concerns traffic handling near the Ramnagar bus-terminal area. Suspension is an interim departmental measure, not a final finding of misconduct against the four personnel.
