A document circulating online does not establish a new weekly holiday for public-sector banks. On October 1, the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit said the purported gazette declaring every Saturday a holiday was fake. It said the Finance Ministry’s Department of Financial Services had issued no such notification.

Akashvani and the Free Press Journal reported the clarification. The claim included State Bank of India and could mislead people planning branch visits. Customers should check their own bank’s official holiday information rather than use the circulating document as evidence of a nationwide change.

This correction concerns a specific false notice. It does not announce a new working-week policy. Discussions between bank unions and employers, including the recently deferred strike, are a separate matter and do not authenticate the document. PIB urged people to verify government-related claims through official channels before forwarding them.
