Dehradun police arrested two people on Sunday, October 4, in their investigation into the death of labourer Madan Mukhiya, according to a PTI-Bhasha report carried by Hindustan. Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Doval identified the accused as Mukhiya’s wife, Meena Devi, and Lallan Sharma.

Mukhiya’s body was found on Saturday in a ravine in the Manduwala forest area, the officer said. Police sent it for a post-mortem examination and registered a murder case on a complaint from his landlord. The Times of India also reported the arrests and the officer’s account.

At a Sunday press briefing described by Royal Bulletin, police said investigators examined CCTV footage around the area and connecting routes and gathered information from local workers. They reported recovering a knife allegedly connected to the death. Police allege that the two accused planned the killing; the alleged motive and sequence of events have not been established in court.

The reviewed reports contained no response from the accused or their lawyers. An original FIR, post-mortem report, forensic finding or remand order was not available for review. The arrests are a development in the investigation, and do not establish the accused persons’ guilt.
