Eight students drowned during an outing to Diveagar beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on October 1. Later reports from Akashvani and Loksatta said all eight bodies had been recovered. The students were part of a trip from a private coaching institution in Pune district; reporting described a group of forty-two students accompanied by six teachers.
Loksatta reported that local residents and water-sports workers joined the rescue effort. The Free Press Journal separately spoke to a local water-sports operator, who placed the alert at around half past four in the afternoon and completion of body recovery at around six. Those timings are his account, rather than a separately verified official chronology.
Officials and Maharashtra ministers expressed condolences and called for help for the affected families. Earlier reports had carried a lower body-recovery count; the later corroborated figure is eight. The checked material did not establish a finding of criminal responsibility or a confirmed compensation amount. Names, identifiable photographs and family details of the students are withheld, and no unverified allegation about responsibility is presented as fact.
