The Lawyers’ Association for Constitution announced on October 2 a five-member commission of former Supreme Court and High Court judges to examine the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Former Supreme Court judge Madan B. Lokur will chair it. The Wire and LawChakra reported the announcement that evening.
The association said the panel would examine the revision’s legal basis, methods and effect on eligible voters. It plans public hearings across India with affected citizens, civil-society groups and experts. A report is targeted for December 2026; that is a planned timetable, not a completed inquiry.
The initiative is private and non-statutory. Its formation does not amount to a court ruling, and no findings have yet been issued. LawChakra reported that the Election Commission had not publicly responded to the panel’s creation. The poll body’s stated objective for revision is to retain eligible electors while removing ineligible entries. Whether that objective has been met is among the matters the panel proposes to examine.
