The Election Commission’s online enrolment portal has removed the extra declaration accompanying Form 6 in states where the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has finished, according to September 30 reports by NDTV and IANS. Both accounts place the portal change on September 30, following a policy decision taken by the full Commission on September 26.
Applicants in the affected areas can use the standard Form 6 to seek voter registration without the separate SIR declaration linking them or their family to earlier electoral rolls. The additional declaration remains applicable in places where SIR is still underway. Ordinary requirements for establishing eligibility, including age and residence, continue.
NDTV quoted an Election Commission official saying the statutory Form 6 itself had not been changed and that the separate declaration was intended for the SIR exercise. The Commission’s September 26 press note said forms prescribed by the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 would apply outside the SIR period.
The fresh development is implementation on the portal, rather than a new September 30 policy decision. The reports do not establish that all voter-verification requirements have been withdrawn, or that people whose names were excluded have automatically been restored to the rolls.
