Three government information-service officials died when their vehicle went off a mountain road in Mizoram on October 1. Akashvani and India Today NE reported the deaths during a return journey towards Aizawl after a visit to Sialsuk.

Those killed included PIB regional official Engam Pame, Doordarshan Aizawl news director Nampibou Marinmai and a Central Bureau of Communication staff member. India Today NE placed the crash near Sateek and reported that steep terrain complicated the recovery.

The driver was injured, according to Akashvani’s late-evening bulletin. India Today NE’s earlier account also reported an injured passenger. The sources therefore differ on the number of survivors injured, and a settled total cannot be given from these reports.

Police personnel and Young Mizo Association volunteers took part in rescue and recovery work. The cause had not been established in the reporting reviewed. No mechanical fault, road defect or responsibility for the crash has been confirmed.
