India's latest Annual Survey of Industries estimates that 2.10 crore persons were engaged in the surveyed sector during 2024–25, up from 1.96 crore a year earlier. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released the findings on September 30, reporting growth of 7.19%.
The release concerns the financial year from April 2024 to March 2025. Fieldwork took place between October 2025 and June 2026. The figures therefore describe a newly published assessment of an earlier period, rather than jobs created in September 2026. PTI and Akashvani independently reported the release and its employment findings.
The number of establishments covered by the estimates rose from about 2.60 lakh to 2.67 lakh. Total emoluments increased by 12.08%, while gross value added grew by 9.59%. The monetary comparisons are at current prices and should not be read as inflation-adjusted growth.
Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana together accounted for about 56% of persons engaged. The survey principally describes registered industry and is not an estimate of all employment in India. The ministry also cautioned that the published figures are survey estimates.
