The Madras High Court on October 1 closed a petition seeking police action against former minister C. Vijayabaskar over an alleged ₹4-crore non-payment. UNI and News Today reported that Justice V. Lakshminarayanan accepted the police submission that a preliminary inquiry had found no prima facie basis for the complaint.
Petitioner Dhana Vimal alleged that he had handed over ₹4.5 crore through a contractor in connection with arrangements for the 2026 Assembly election, after an assurance that it would be returned. He claimed only ₹50 lakh came back and sought a direction to register a criminal case. Those were his allegations; the police inquiry did not substantiate a basis for proceeding against Vijayabaskar.
The result is closure of the petition requesting investigative action. It should not be described as an acquittal after a criminal trial. The reviewed reports did not provide a separate new statement from Vijayabaskar or the petitioner’s response to the closure.
