Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Dharavi Experience Centre in Mumbai on October 2. An IANS report carried by NDTV located the facility near Bandra Kurla Complex, in H Block of PMGP Colony, and described physical and digital previews of the redevelopment plan.
Oneindia reported that visitors can inspect furnished and unfurnished model apartments of 350 and 500 square feet, alongside a three-dimensional walkthrough. The centre also provides assisted and digital information on surveys, eligibility, documentation and rehabilitation. These are presentations of proposed arrangements, not evidence that any particular household has received a home.
Fadnavis said the project should preserve the neighbourhood’s links between homes and livelihoods, including pottery, leather work, food processing and recycling. His statements about improved workspaces and reduced confusion are the government’s stated objectives; the opening does not establish that those outcomes have been achieved.
The state redevelopment project is to be executed through Adani Navbharat Developers, with the Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority as the government partner. For residents, the immediate development is an information and demonstration facility. Individual eligibility decisions, allotments and delivery of housing remain separate steps from viewing models of the proposed neighbourhood.
