Domestic LPG consumers need completed biometric Aadhaar authentication to book refills at the regulated retail price with applicable subsidy from October 1, under the Petroleum Ministry’s announced rule. The official September 19 release and independent reports by Business Standard and The New Indian Express set out the requirement. Its commencement is separate from today’s commercial-cylinder price revision.

The ministry says consumers who have already completed authentication need no further action for this change. Others can complete it during delivery, at the distributor’s showroom or through their oil marketing company’s mobile application. The ministry’s 89.9% completion figure refers to September 19, not an updated count for today.

Consumers unwilling or unable to authenticate can still obtain LPG under the stated alternative: registering that choice through the company’s channels and buying unsubsidised 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders at market prices, subject to local availability. The announcement therefore does not establish a blanket end to gas supply. No nationwide count of failed bookings or households affected today was available in the reviewed material.
