India retained the Asian Games women's compound team archery title on September 30, defeating China 238–234 in Japan. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep secured the gold at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park, according to Akashvani's report of the final.
The trio had reached the title match by beating South Korea 234–233 in the semifinal. In the final, India led 178–176 before the last six-arrow end and finished with six tens to settle the contest, Onmanorama reported.
The winning score equalled the world record set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games, the same report said. China took silver, while South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei in the bronze-medal match.
The result gave India a second consecutive title in this event after the gold won at the previous Games in Hangzhou. It is a team-event result for the three archers, distinct from individual competitions and the separate mixed-team event. The final's four-point margin completed a successful title defence after the much closer semifinal.
