Farmers blocked a highway stretch at Aurangabad village in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district on October 4 over what they described as slow paddy procurement. PTI reported that the road reopened after talks with local authorities. Amar Ujala separately documented the gathering and sit-in on National Highway 344.

The protest followed a Bharatiya Kisan Union mahapanchayat attended by Rakesh Tikait. Farmers sought higher sugarcane and wheat prices and an increase in the permitted moisture content of paddy, among other demands. These were demands raised at the meeting, not changes accepted by the government.

In a separate ANI interview, Tikait sought meetings with district officials and an appointment with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He said the Samyukta Kisan Morcha would consider further action at its October 12 meeting if the grievances were not addressed.

The government’s position reported by PTI was Saini’s assurance from Friday, October 2, that paddy brought to markets would be purchased and deputy commissioners had been told to monitor procurement. That assurance predates Sunday’s blockade. The reviewed reports do not establish a fresh government concession or a final settlement.
