India’s men’s quadrant team won a sepaktakraw bronze medal at the Asian Games on October 2 after losing its semifinal to Japan. The Statesman reported a 0-2 result, with set scores of 12-15 and 13-15 at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium.
NDTV Profit also confirmed the result and reported that India had reached the last four after topping its group unbeaten.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the bronze in a statement published that evening and described it as India’s first medal in the men’s quadrant event at the Asian Games. That qualification matters: it does not mean India had never won an Asian Games medal in any form of sepaktakraw.
The Statesman recalled earlier Indian bronzes in men’s team regu in 2018 and women’s team regu at the Hangzhou Games in 2023. The new result adds a different event to that record. India received bronze following the semifinal exit, rather than by winning a separate bronze-medal match.
