Lovlina Borgohain won the women’s 75kg boxing gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on October 2. The Asian Boxing confederation’s official report confirms a unanimous 5–0 victory over China’s Bao Ziyi. PTI’s report from Nishio independently records the result and identifies it as Borgohain’s first Asian Games title.
The win came on her birthday and made her the second Indian woman to take an Asian Games boxing gold, after Mary Kom’s 51kg title at Incheon in 2014, according to PTI. Borgohain had finished with silver at the previous Games after losing that final to China’s Li Qian.
Asian Boxing’s September 30 semifinal report records how she reached the championship bout: a 3–2 decision against Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova. Bao advanced from the other semifinal with a 5–0 win over Vietnam’s Luu Diem Quynh. Friday’s completed final therefore turns Borgohain’s assured medal into a confirmed gold.
The official October 2 report covers the opening finals session. Further title bouts remained on the programme at the time of that report, so the day’s boxing competition was not yet complete.
