The National Investigation Agency reported two further arrests in the investigation into the June 2024 attack on then Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh’s convoy. The development was announced to officials on September 29, according to The Pioneer, and covered by The Economic Times that evening and Hub Network on September 30. The accused, Jangminlun Singson and Thangjoel Haokip, are from Churachandpur and are the third and fourth people arrested in this case.
The original attack took place on June 10, 2024, near K. Sinam village in Kangpokpi district. Armed assailants targeted the convoy on National Highway 37, injuring two security personnel and damaging government vehicles. The present development concerns the investigation, not a new attack.
The NIA alleges that the two helped plan and facilitate the ambush. Reports say both had already been arrested in a separate NIA case. A special court in Thoubal remanded them to eight days of police custody.
The allegations remain subject to judicial scrutiny. The reviewed reports contain no conviction or response from the accused or their lawyers. Investigators say they are examining individual roles and alleged connections to others involved in the attack.
