Meerut police arrested two suspects late on October 2 in an investigation into a woman’s killing and robbery on September 13. NewsTrack’s October 3 report quotes Mawana Circle Officer Pankaj Lavania describing the operation near the Mawana-Hastinapur boundary.
Police said one suspect suffered gunshot injuries and was taken to hospital. Their account says officers returned fire after suspects shot at them. That account of how the firing began has not been independently established in the sources reviewed.
Investigators reported recovering a country-made pistol, cartridges, two phones and jewellery. PTI also reported the two arrests on October 3. The older killing is the case being investigated; the new development is Friday night’s arrests. No conviction is reported.
