India finished the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand on September 27 with silver in the Open competition and bronze in the women's event. Both teams drew their final matches 2–2, against Hungary and Georgia respectively, and India retained the Nona Gaprindashvili Trophy for its combined performance.
The Open team's final round featured a win for Arjun Erigaisi over Peter Leko and a defeat for world champion Gukesh against Gleb Dudin. India ended on 18 match points, taking silver ahead of Germany on the tie-break as host Uzbekistan won gold.
In the women's competition, India emerged from a group of teams level on match points to claim bronze on the tie-break. China and Kazakhstan took the first two places. India also earned individual honours: Savitha Shri won the board-five gold medal, while Gukesh received silver on board four.
