Kochi’s Palarivattom police arrested a man on October 4 in an investigation into alleged sexual assault and blackmail. The Times of India reported that he was detained in Tanur on Sunday morning. Kerala Kaumudi and Deepika also reported the arrest that evening. The new development is the police action, rather than an assault alleged to have occurred that day.
According to the police account reported by Kerala Kaumudi, the man met the complainant through social media, allegedly sexually assaulted her and recorded intimate images. The complaint alleges that he obtained ₹1.18 lakh by threatening to circulate the material. These remain allegations under investigation; neither a payment record nor the alleged recordings was independently examined for this report.
The Times of India’s October 4 report says the accused was produced before an Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate and remanded to judicial custody for fourteen days. Deshabhimani separately reported the court remand. Custody at this stage does not amount to conviction or establish that the alleged offences occurred.
Police also claimed that the seized phone contained intimate material involving other women, according to Deepika. Deshabhimani reported investigators’ suspicion of similar blackmail, while noting that only one complaint had been received. The existence of material on a phone, as described by police, does not establish additional offences or a verified number of other complainants.
The reviewed accounts said the accused was on bail in a separate child-protection case. That reported procedural history is distinct from the present allegations and is not evidence of guilt here. No response from the accused or his lawyer, original FIR, precise statutory charges or signed remand order was available in the reviewed material. Identifying details of the complainant are withheld.
