Bihar’s Cabinet on September 30 authorised an estimated ₹62.52 crore to procure 30 water cannons and 86 Vajra vehicles for police crowd-control and emergency duties. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, according to news reports of the Cabinet briefing.
The reported allocation is ₹26.40 crore for the water cannons and ₹36.12 crore for the Vajra vehicles. The government described their intended use in situations including festivals, fairs, rallies, VIP movements, land disputes, student protests and emergencies.
This is administrative approval for procurement. The reviewed reports did not specify suppliers, delivery schedules or completed deployments. They also did not establish that the purchase targets any particular religious community or protest group.
The Cabinet approved 30 proposals at the meeting. The police-vehicle decision was reported separately from other measures covering energy, roads and health. Its practical effect will depend on the subsequent procurement and use of the equipment, rather than the approval alone.
