A man died during helicopter-delivered flood relief in Saran, Bihar on October 2. The Indian Express and The New Indian Express confirmed the death through local police, but their reports differed on the circumstances.
Amnour police chief Vimlesh Kumar told The Indian Express that residents offered two accounts: a relief package struck the man, or it landed nearby and he suffered a heart attack. Police said the body had no external injury marks and was sent for post-mortem examination.
The New Indian Express carried residents’ account that the package caused the death. That account is not an established medical finding. Other injuries were also reported during the distribution, with differing totals in the two reports.
Officials said floods had affected 170 villages in Saran and around 3.32 lakh people, with over 43,400 relocated. The cause of the death remained pending in the reporting reviewed.
