Four people died after an ambulance carrying an Army soldier’s body crashed on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district on October 4 morning. The dead were three relatives accompanying the remains and the ambulance driver, according to separate reports by The Indian Express, OneIndia and IANS that day.
The ambulance was carrying the body of Subedar Major Satyawan Singh. The Indian Express reported that he was a resident of Deoria’s Rudrapur area and had died while receiving treatment in Chandigarh. OneIndia placed the crash near the 79.6-kilometre mark in Haliyapur, close to the Ayodhya–Sultanpur boundary.
The Indian Express and OneIndia reported that two occupants died at the scene and two others died after being taken to hospital in Ayodhya district. Police sent the bodies for postmortem examination. District Magistrate Indrajeet Singh told The Indian Express that officials were coordinating with the Army and the Deoria administration to arrange the return of the bodies after formalities.
Police suspect that the ambulance struck a parked truck, according to The Indian Express’s report updated at 8:59 p.m. IST. Its account also records the initial control-room information as a collision involving an unidentified vehicle. The circumstances and responsibility remain under investigation. Reports differ over the precise crash time, journey details and which relatives held which family relationship, so those disputed particulars are not treated as established. The four deaths are consistently reported across the reviewed accounts.
