The CBI formally arrested Sandeep Mistry in Mumbai on September 29 after his return from the United Arab Emirates. A special court then sent him to judicial custody until October 6, according to PTI’s September 29 report in The Pioneer. The agency did not seek police custody at that hearing.
The Indian Express reported a CBI spokesperson’s account that Mistry had arrived in Mumbai late on September 28. An Interpol Red Notice issued in July had led to his detention by UAE authorities, the agency said. The fresh September 29 developments are his formal arrest and court production.
Mistry previously served as a director of Hong Kong-based Fancy Creations Ltd. The CBI alleges that he helped coordinate fictitious trade and forged import-export records within companies linked to Nirav Modi. Moneycontrol’s September 29 report also attributes allegations of pressure on nominal directors and removal of electronic evidence to the agency.
Free Press Journal’s court report confirmed his appearance before the special CBI court on September 29. A chargesheet has been filed, according to the agency, but these allegations remain to be tested in court. No detailed response from Mistry or his legal representative was available in the reports reviewed.
