Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and three co-accused surrendered before a Kalyan court on Sunday, October 4, and were sent to Adharwadi Jail in judicial custody. PTI’s account, published by India Today, and separate Marathi reporting by Hindusthan Post and Sarkarnama agree on the Sunday court appearance and remand.

The case concerns the alleged assault and verbal abuse of doctors at Shastri Nagar Municipal Hospital in Dombivli on July 6. Sunday’s action followed the Supreme Court’s September 28 order cancelling the four accused’s bail and requiring them to surrender before October 5.

In that earlier hearing, Mhatre’s counsel Siddhartha Dave argued that the allegations were false, distorted and exaggerated. The Supreme Court allowed Maharashtra’s appeal against the grant of bail and directed an expedited trial and protection of important witnesses. This was a bail ruling, not a conviction; the allegations must be determined at trial.
