The Supreme Court on September 30 permitted the manufacture and sale of specified next-generation joined green firecrackers following the Centre's recommendation. The Times of India's October 1 court report and the Free Press Journal's September 30 coverage describe permission subject to approved formulations and applicable noise, emission and safety requirements.
The bench of Justices M. M. Sundresh and P. B. Varale said a separate order would be passed for Delhi. During the hearing, it rejected unrestricted bursting throughout the day while also expressing opposition to a blanket prohibition. Those remarks do not provide a new timetable for every locality.
The Centre relied on expert assessments of the specified products. The separate question of barium-containing variants remained unresolved, with further assessment to be completed by October 15. The permission therefore should not be read as clearance for every product marketed as a green cracker.
The long-running proceedings consider festival celebrations alongside pollution concerns. The court referred to the effects on older people, children and those who are ill. The reviewed reports do not set out final 2026 Delhi bursting hours; conditions imposed in earlier years should not automatically be treated as this year's directions.
