Northeast Frontier Railway said on October 4 that interventions during January–September 2026 had protected more than 250 elephants from being hit by trains. PTI attributed the account to chief spokesperson Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, while The Morung Express reported an official railway release.
The railway credited a combination of intrusion alerts, speed restrictions, staff vigilance and coordination with forest officials. It also described bee-sound deterrents and wildlife underpasses. The claim concerns combined measures, not proof that artificial intelligence alone prevented every potential collision.
The published figures contain an unresolved discrepancy. The stated aggregate is 255, but the four divisional figures in The Morung Express add to 257. Asal Sach therefore reports the railway’s broad claim without presenting either exact total as independently established.
The fresh development is the October 4 disclosure about the preceding nine months, not a same-day mass rescue. The reviewed reports did not provide incident-level records to check the interventions, and the statement does not establish a zero-death record.
