A fast-track court in Malegaon convicted a man on September 30 in a child’s sexual-assault and murder case. Loksatta’s October 1 report dates the underlying crime to November 16, 2025, and says punishment remains to be decided after the October 7 hearing.

The Times of India reported late on October 1 that special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam had sought three assessments before sentencing arguments: the convict’s background, his conduct in prison and his psychological condition, including prospects of reform.

The prosecution will put its sentencing position before the court after those reports arrive. A finding of guilt has therefore been reached, but the reports reviewed do not establish a death sentence or any other final punishment.

Loksatta said the prosecution examined 24 witnesses during the trial. This report concerns the current judicial stage, not a fresh assault. Identifying details about the child and her family are withheld.
