The parliamentary committee examining simultaneous-election proposals cancelled its planned October 6 visit to the Supreme Court on Thursday, October 1. The Indian Express reported that the Lok Sabha Secretariat notified members that evening without specifying a reason.
An earlier agenda described discussions with the Chief Justice and other judges about simultaneous elections. Committee chairman P. P. Chaudhary told the newspaper the visit was intended to familiarise members with the court and its library, not to debate the bills. He cited other scheduled programmes; a separate PTI report also recorded scheduling difficulties.
Kapil Sibal and opposition members had questioned the appropriateness of discussing proposed legislation with sitting judges who might later consider its constitutionality. That is their objection, not a judicial ruling. The cancellation concerns this visit: it does not mean the committee’s examination of the two bills has ended or that either bill has become law.
