Delhi Police detained All India Students’ Association president Neha Bora and other demonstrators on October 4 as protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation continued for a third day. Bora was subsequently released, according to AISA members quoted by Scroll and The New Indian Express. This was a new Sunday intervention, separate from the detentions on October 2 and 3.
The AISA march began around Andhra Bhawan Circle on Ashoka Road and was stopped at barricades as participants tried to proceed towards Jantar Mantar. Scroll’s October 4 reporting, including work by reporter Priyali Dhingra, described further detentions and demonstrators trying to stop a vehicle carrying Bora.
AISA alleged in an October 4 statement that Bora was taken in an unauthorised vehicle without a woman constable and that the destination was initially unknown. The New Indian Express quoted a senior police officer rejecting the allegations and alleging that some protesters attacked officers. Neither account is a completed finding. Former AISA president N. Sai Balaji later said Bora had been released at Narela Industrial Area police station; a subsequent post said they were together and returning safely.
Separately, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Sanjeev Jha were among party workers detained at India Gate, The New Indian Express reported. ANI’s October 4 dispatch recorded Bharadwaj alleging rough handling. He also made that allegation on his own public account. The reviewed accounts do not establish a final combined detention count or the release status of every participant.
The demonstrations concern alleged electoral-roll irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision, alongside objections to police conduct during the protests. Allegations about the voter rolls remain contested: the Election Commission has said its orders have legal sanction and follow statutory procedures, The New Indian Express reported. Sunday’s detentions do not settle that dispute or establish guilt by protesters or officers.
