Odisha Vigilance arrested Umakant Samantaray, an assistant director of factories and boilers in Sambalpur, on September 30 in an alleged disproportionate-assets case. PTI and UNI separately reported the arrest, distinguishing it from searches conducted on September 29.
Investigators said searches at seven locations identified four multi-storey buildings, a flat, 30 land parcels and other assets linked to the officer. These are the agency's reported findings. Identifying property does not by itself establish that it was acquired unlawfully, and the reports do not say every listed asset was seized.
A case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The allegation that the holdings could not be explained by legitimate income remains subject to investigation and judicial assessment. The reviewed reports contained no response from Samantaray and no confirmed subsequent custody order.
