Police in Jharkhand’s Chatra district seized 200 cartons of liquor from a pickup marked for postal parcels and arrested its driver on October 4. Chatra Police said the consignment was being transported illegally towards Bihar and that the arrested man had been sent to judicial custody.

The police statement said officers acted after the superintendent of police received information about a white parcel-marked pickup. A team led by the Vashishthnagar station in-charge stopped the vehicle and found the cartons in its compartment. News11 Bharat and Lagatar reported that the search took place near the Jori police-station gate.

The two local reports put the seizure at 1,728 litres: 200 cartons, each containing 48 bottles of 180 millilitres. They said the pickup and a mobile phone were also seized. Citing the police account, the reports said the consignment had come from Hazaribagh and was intended for Gaya in Bihar; that alleged route remains under investigation.

Chatra Police said Vashishthnagar case 135/2026 was registered on October 4 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and excise law. The underlying seizure record, FIR and remand order were not available for review. The reports carried no response from the driver or his lawyer; the allegations have not been adjudicated.
