Haryana police on October 1 disclosed the arrest of a telecom sales agent accused of supplying SIM cards to cyber-fraud suspects. Vinay Sharma was arrested in Kanpur on September 30, according to UNI and Hindustan’s Gurugram report. Police allege that he activated additional connections using customers’ identity-verification records without their consent.
The lead emerged from a Gurugram manufacturer’s complaint about a ₹1.71-lakh payment for peanuts that were allegedly never delivered. Investigators said a telephone number used in that transaction led them to the agent. Police alleged that he supplied roughly 50 SIM cards and received around ₹1 lakh.
Those figures and the account of his role are police allegations, not court findings. The inquiry into other participants and the supply network continues. The reviewed reports did not include Sharma’s response or establish a completed remand decision. The January transaction and September arrest should not be confused with Thursday’s disclosure.
