Nine people accused over the Shahi Masjid clashes underwent medical examinations at Ujjain’s district hospital on September 30, while police remained deployed around the mosque. ANI quoted medical officer Jitendra Sharma as saying he found no external injuries among those nine people. Their individual medical records were not available for independent review.
The examination followed the September 28 confrontation over removal of part of the mosque for road widening ahead of Simhastha. Police used tear gas and batons after stone-pelting was reported. The doctor’s account covers only those examined on September 30; it cannot establish the condition of every person present during the earlier confrontation.
In a separate September 30 statement, Samajwadi Party secretary Sufiyan Ali Qureshi questioned why talks over the partial removal had escalated to baton use and tear gas, The Statesman reported. He accused the BJP-led state government of targeting Muslims. That allegation is his political response to the operation, rather than a finding from an independent inquiry.
District officials have described the removal as a negotiated step and said the mosque committee was carrying out the work. The entire mosque was not demolished. The new medical information leaves the wider questions about the necessity of police force and the treatment of people at the scene unresolved.
