Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to move towards mainly dry weather from September 30 as the latest round of showers and thunderstorms weakens. Reports based on India Meteorological Department forecasts point to a wider easing of rainfall across northwest India, including neighbouring Delhi.
The recent rain has not erased the region's seasonal shortfall. The Tribune reported that Punjab had received 268.8 mm between June 1 and the morning of September 28, 39 per cent below its long-period average. Haryana's corresponding rainfall was 315.7 mm, a deficit of 27 per cent.
The outlook differs from conditions in the hills and farther east: isolated rain may persist in Uttarakhand, while parts of the Northeast and southern peninsula remain wetter. The dry-weather assessment is a forecast, and local updates remain important for outdoor travel and farm operations.
