An Ahmedabad court on October 1 granted twelve days of police custody for five Pakistani nationals accused in the Arabian Sea drug case, PTI reported. Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad had sought fourteen days. The reported order runs until October 13 and concerns further investigation, not a determination of guilt.

The men were detained after the September 25 interception of the boat Azad. The seizure of about 526 kilograms of heroin and methamphetamine was publicly detailed on September 30 and reported by The Indian Express and The Times of India. Those earlier events are background to the custody hearing; no additional seizure is being reported here.

Investigators have alleged a planned transfer at sea and are examining connections and financial trails, including possible links in Tamil Nadu. These remain the investigators’ claims. The checked accounts did not provide a substantive defence response to the October 1 remand request. The nationalities of the accused do not establish responsibility for anyone beyond the individuals under investigation.
