A special NIA court in Mumbai granted dismissed police officer Sachin Waze bail on September 29 in the 2021 Antilia explosives scare and Mansukh Hiran murder case. The signed order, reproduced by LiveLaw, questions the UAPA terrorism allegation at the bail stage while preserving the prosecution’s opportunity to prove its case.
The court required a ₹1 lakh personal bond and an equal local solvent surety. Until material witnesses are examined, Waze cannot enter or reside in Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Palghar or Raigad except to attend trial. The order also requires passport surrender, weekly local police reporting and no contact with witnesses.
NIA opposed bail, alleging risks of witness intimidation, evidence interference and flight. The Indian Express and Free Press Journal reported on September 29 that the special court refused the agency’s request to stay its order. Mid-day’s report that night said NIA approached Bombay High Court, where an urgent hearing request was declined that afternoon.
NDTV Marathi also reported the High Court challenge on September 29. Waze’s lawyer told PTI that release formalities were underway, in a report carried by NDTV that night. Actual release and any subsequent High Court stay were not verified at the September 30 morning check. The bail ruling does not determine guilt or dismiss the charges.
