The Calcutta High Court on October 1 directed that a separate police case concerning the cremation of the RG Kar hospital doctor and alleged destruction of evidence be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation team already examining the matter. PTI and Truth of Bengal reported the order. It is a new step in the evidence-handling proceedings, distinct from the earlier transfer of the original rape and murder investigation.
The direction requires Khardah police to hand over the relevant records rather than continue a parallel investigation. Any further request for an accused person’s custody must be pursued by the CBI through the court. These procedural directions do not establish that the allegations of evidence destruction have been proved.
The doctor’s parents have sought scrutiny of the handling of their daughter’s body and the subsequent investigation. A September 24 Times of India report described the High Court questioning the parallel police inquiry. That earlier hearing supplies context; the present development is the October 1 transfer. The victim’s identity and private family details are withheld.
