Lawyers who visited families displaced by alleged political violence in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district say they were attacked while returning on October 3. In October 4 interviews with TV9 Bangla and The Observer Post, lawyer Samim Ahameed described repeated assaults and damage to vehicles around Garbeta and Salboni.

Ahameed alleged that attackers used sticks and iron implements, and that a woman lawyer was also assaulted. The accounts raise allegations of harassment but do not establish a completed investigation. Reports differ on the numbers injured and vehicles damaged, so no fixed totals are given here.

The lawyers accused BJP supporters and alleged inadequate police protection. Garbeta BJP legislator Pradip Lodha denied his party’s involvement to Ei Samay. The Observer Post reported the police response that officers reached the area, brought the situation under control and escorted the vehicles towards Kolkata.

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee condemned the alleged attack in a directly published October 4 statement. Her attribution of blame and claims about subsequent intervention remain her account. No FIR text, arrest, court order or final finding was established in the material reviewed.
