West Bengal formed a six-member Special Investigation Team on September 30 to investigate violence at Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. The Indian Express’s report that day cited a Home Department notification assigning three cases to the team and requiring a preliminary report by October 1.
An IANS report published on September 30 by The State Line corroborated the formation and deadline. Additional Commissioner of Police for Crime Kunal Agarwal will lead the inquiry. The team may seek additional personnel if needed. Formation of the team does not establish responsibility for the violence.
The confrontation occurred on September 27 during a campus programme organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat. Students alleged that participants assaulted them when they objected to the event. The organisation, in turn, alleged that protesters disrupted its programme and damaged banners. These remain competing allegations.
The Indian Express also reported an institutional complaint alleging attacks on students and faculty, alongside a police complaint alleging obstruction and damage to a government vehicle. The inquiry is expected to examine those accounts. No completed investigation report or final finding was available at publication.
