Police registered two cases on October 1 against 160 political activists after clashes in Thiruvananthapuram’s Palayam area, according to PTI’s police account. One case was registered against 80 Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union activists; the other concerns 80 activists of the Students Federation of India and Democratic Youth Federation of India.

The confrontation followed a September 30 evening protest march near a university men’s hostel. The News Minute and Kerala Kaumudi independently reported the clash and the rival accounts. Congress-aligned protesters alleged objects were thrown from the hostel; SFI representatives alleged burning torches were thrown towards it. Police intervened with batons, and The News Minute also reported tear gas.

Those competing allegations do not establish who started the violence. The new development is registration of criminal cases, not 160 confirmed arrests or a finding of guilt. No primary FIR copies or verified arrest total were available in the reviewed reports. The investigation must determine individual responsibility.
