Rest of India defeated Jammu and Kashmir by 167 runs in Srinagar on October 4 to win the Irani Cup. The match ended on the fourth day of the fixture at the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium, a day before its scheduled finish. The BCCI’s official match centre records the completed result.
Chasing 279, Jammu and Kashmir were dismissed for 111 in 28.4 overs. Mukesh Kumar took six wickets for 33 runs, while Akash Deep returned three for 25. Together, the two seamers claimed nine wickets in the decisive innings and overturned the hosts’ earlier advantage.
Jammu and Kashmir, the reigning Ranji Trophy champions, had made 278 in reply to Rest of India’s first-innings 237, earning a 41-run lead. Rest of India then scored 319 in its second innings. Ravichandran Smaran’s 135 was central to that recovery and followed his 68 in the first innings.
Jammu and Kashmir began the chase with a 54-run opening partnership and reached lunch at 89 for three. Their remaining seven wickets fell for 22 runs. Akash Deep removed Shubham Khajuria with the first ball after lunch, and Mukesh Kumar finished the innings with three wickets in four balls.
