The Calcutta High Court on October 1 extended Mahua Moitra’s interim protection from coercive action in an alleged hate-speech case until January 29, 2027. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya set the next hearing for January 13. The investigation continues.
LiveLaw reports that the State told the court Moitra had appeared before the investigating officer on August 14 and answered questions. Her counsel said she had not faced egg-pelting during that appearance. The extension does not dispose of the case or decide the truth of the allegations.
In a separate matter involving alleged attacks during visits to Krishnanagar, the court continued the arrangement for two police personnel to accompany the MP until November 30. That petition is to be dealt with by the Chief Justice-led division bench. The Statesman and IANS distinguish the security arrangement from the protection against coercive action; the two deadlines should not be confused.
